The Black Dyke Mills Brass Band (BDM)

British brass band to present clinic

The Black Dyke Mills Brass Band (BDM) from England, considered one of the most well-known brass bands in the world, will make a rare, three-day U.S. visit this year, including a stop at UD–the only one at a university.

A special free clinic and demonstration–designed especially for college, adult, community and brass band musicians–will be presented from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, in Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Seating is limited. For free, advanced issue clinic tickets or additional information on the visit, call 738-2233 or send e-mail to [This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.].

The program, sponsored by the University of Delaware Department of Music and the Chesapeake Brass Band, features Nicholas Childs, conductor; Roger Webster, cornet; Brett Baker, trombone; and David Thornton, euphonium.

Since its founding in the early 19th century, the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band has acquired a reputation for worldwide tours, including concerts and numerous recordings. The organization has rehearsed in the same band room since 1855.

Next to the Canadian Brass, BDM is probably the most famous brass band in the world and has made numerous recordings. Currently, the ensemble offers 20 recordings, ranging from Christmas Variations and Great British Marches to Sacred Symphonies and Spectacular Classics.
